Loop Lighting
In loop lighting, the subject is lit from about 45 degrees in front of them and above. The camera should be straight in front of the subject with the light off to the side at the angle. This type of lighting will often create a "nose shadow" that loops down at an angle onto their cheek. The light is not flat, but the face is still very illuminated and bright. This technique can be used with many different people. However, it is most commonly used with people that have narrow faces as it will lengthen their face.
